5 Tips for Washing Your Hair Better

Some people complain about having hair that's too oily, too dry or too frizzy. And we know that if we really want to tame our hair, we can spend for treatments in the salon. The right rebond treatment can tame frizziness, the right hair spa treatment can prevent dandruff and oily hair, and weekly hot oil treatments can boost your hair's moisture and manageability. However, we must not forget that the basics can be done at home, and that's your responsibility. Ladies, let's talk about washing your hair and how you can do it better.

1. Shampoo every other day. Unless your scalp is super oily, you only need to shampoo every other day. Shampoo is made mostly of soap because it's meant to clean. However, you should remember that your scalp need not be "squeaky clean". Instead, it just needs to be clean. It's very sensitive too so it's best to just hold off the shampoo. Don't listen to those commercials that tell you to wash it everyday, they're just trying to sell more shampoo.

2. Condition everyday. Yes, you can just wash your hair and put on conditioner, let it stay for a minute or so and then rinse. Conditioner is meant to arrange hair into its ideal condition (straight, frizz free, curly, wavy, etc.) so it's advised to use this everyday. It's also your hair health boost. Bonus tip: as you condition, wrap your hair with a shower cap so your pores could open and "welcome" the conditioner's nutrients.

3. When picking out your shampoo, choose the one that contains protein or keratin since it's what your hair need the most. Also, choose your hair products according to your hair type. If you don't have a very specific hair type, you can just choose a mild shampoo (yes, even baby shampoo does wonders) and invest in a good conditioner.

4. It's always good to start washing your hair with warm water. Not too warm because that will encourage breakage and strip off your scalp's natural oils, just enough to open its pores. Finish off with cold water to lock in moisture and close the follicles on the scalp.

5. Rinse thoroughly. Residue can cause dandruff, oily hair and affects volume negatively. If you have extra thick hair, pay close attention to this. Do not stop until you're sure you've really rinsed thoroughly.

Happy hair washing girls! Do these tips religiously and make sure you're doing Step 1 right. When you got this covered, you can move on to more complex and issue-specific treatments. Don't forget that to maximize the effects of those treatments, you still have to wash your hair right...everyday! :)
